Power of Prayer

In just a few days, on Thursday January 3, 2008, we will begin a weekly happening just for 7th and 8th grade students! I am super excited about this new happening, as I believe God will use it to greatly impact our Junior High Community. The name we’ve chosen for this happening is FOCUS.

FOCUS was chosen for the simple thought of wanting all of our Junior High students to focus on Christ. When the students focus on Christ they will then grow in Christ. FOCUS has intentionally been designed to meet the unique needs of the Junior High student.

FOCUS will happen each Thursday night from 6:30 – 8:00pm in the church Fellowship Hall.

When students arrive, they will come into the Fellowship Hall and be greeted by one of our FOCUS volunteers. Right at 6:30pm, we will begin with a fun icebreaker activity called “Throwball.” The Throwball is a huge ball with tons of questions written on it to get Junior High Students talking. Once we break the ice, we will continue with some fun, but stupid, games that Junior High students will love!

At this point, each night takes a turn toward a little more seriousness. We will teach an approximately 15-minute lesson that relates specifically to the Junior High student and will include some sort of interaction with them. After the lesson time, we’ll break into small groups.

Each small group will be divided by gender, and as numbers increase in the future, we will then divide them by both gender and grade. These groups will truly deepen relationships and help our students grow in Christ as they discuss questions about the lesson, memorize scripture together, and pray for and with each other!

Of course with any happening, there is food. Once each small group breaks, they will come back to the Fellowship Hall for goodies, and we will give them some announcements for upcoming Student Ministry events and other important information.

FOCUS is a weekly happening. However, each month we will also do a fun activity called UNFOCUSED. Be sure to check out the Student Ministry calendar for more details about when and what UNFOCUSED will be.

Once we begin FOCUS, please note that our Sunday night happening Real Talk, will be for Senior High only.
